Peace, Love and Pets!
Hello Animal Enthusiasts and Happy New Year!!
I am so pleased to announce that Julia Sharp is the new founder of “Peace, Love and Pets,” an organization committed to saving lives, one at a time. We are currently awaiting approval of our 501c3 status.
In the meantime, Julia is working tirelessly and courageously to save animals in Rowan County, KY. Her boundaries reach far past those of Kentucky state lines. I for one, have had the pleasure of knowing JUlia for several years, via rescue. She is perhaps one of the most devoted and tireless women I know and she inspires me to do all I can for rescue. her grass roots efforts and labor intensive days, not to mention “full house” make her a Vegan inspiration for one and all. For, I have never witnessed more compassion within one human being.
That being said, Julia can not do this alone.
We have some good friends at the Rowan County Dog Pound as well as some other rescue organizations, that help to make the load a bit lighter for dear Julia. They tranport, foster, house, adopt, home visit, bathe, vet, clip, groom, cry, eat, sleep and dream……..animals.
Without the help of some great friends and rescues, this would not be possible. Many hands really do lighten our loads and we ask that you help us in any way you can. Whether prayers, donations, driving, bathing, housing and regardless of how slight the conrtibution, we love and welcome your help!!
Thank You, One And All!
Julia Sharp, Founder

Times Like These…….
Animal rescue can be very difficult at times. Emotionally a roller coaster for those involved. Finding animals in the horrors we do, makes you physically sick. We cry, we shake, we get ANGRY………. and then, something happens to remind us exactly why we do it. Something happens to remind us how these helpless bundles of love depend on us. Something happens to show us, even one life saved is a victory.
Almost 2 months ago, I posted emergency help notices for a sweet sweet girl named Daisy.
Her petfinder ad stated, “Daisy is about 10 years old and weighs 17 lbs. She is what is called an “8-inch Beagle”. She has been horribly neglected during her life and we have started vetting her to get her all better. She is playful, happy and sweet tempered with people, dogs and cats, and her favourite activities are to play with the dogs and lounge around at her wonderful foster home. She loves people, dogs and gets along fine with cats too!”
Daisy was extremely ill, and starved. We watched her at her foster home begin to thrive. Every day that went on, we grew more confident that Daisy would make it.
I just received word, that not only has she made it, but she is doing amazingly well. Don’t believe me? You should see her petfinder page now!!!
“***November 25th – What? You’re kidding! … OUR Daisy ? Impossible! Our foster Mom took “little old lady” Daisy to the vet’s yesterday. Well, this is astounding: my vet started examining her, couldn’t believe it, and so they asked all the other vets’ opinions. Everyone concurs: Daisy could be as young as 2 years, is probably around 3, but in any case not more than 5 years old!! I’m trying to wrap my head around what this means…
On the negative side, I guess it means her initial condition & energy level were SO bad that she seemed prematurely aged when she was first rescued about a month ago … POOR thing! But the positive side is much greater! Daisy has many years to live and make some lucky person very happy!!”
What does this mean? Daisy is doing great, but in order to save her she has some substantial vet bills. Please make any donation that you can! Donation can be made right through her petfinder page by clicking here.
Starving Fur-Babies Need Our Help!
The Brewsters are elderly and very poor people. We removed 10 puppies and 2 adults from the situation this week. There are still dogs on the property. The dogs over there have been living on bread and water. Please help me feed these animals. My heart cannot take much more sadness. The Brewster dogs are listed on the STAR petfinder site KY251. I need to get some food over there to them.
The feed and seed here does not take credit cards. Cash only. I can buy 40lbs of food for only 10 bucks from them. So 10 dollars buy’s 40 pounds of food. Can anyone help me with this? Thank you!
There is no 501c3 to blanket this under. This is simply feeding some animals until we can get them into rescue. I have a paypal debit card so funds sent can be gotten out the ATM immediately and I can run and get the food and deliver it to them. HELP! Thank you….Julia

“Some of you know my blue van is still broken down in WV, after a rough transport 2 weeks ago. The tow company called and they are going to have to charge storage on it. My dinky car with bald tires will not pull that big econoline back here. If the storage bill is too much, then I am going to have to just get my stuff out of it and sign my van over to the tow company. Soooo…
Sue has a large van (a nice BIG one with rear air vents) that she will let me use to get my van back (I still have crates and supplies in my broken van so I have to get it back here!) and she will let us use it to do transports in the future if I can get the brakes fixed on it. It is going to cost about 350 bucks to fix her brakes, it needs rotors, and another 60 bucks to do the oil change (it uses synthetic oil so it costs more). We also need a van to go get food for the animals. In total, I’m short about $500.00
Can anyone help with this? I really, really hate to ask but I’m busted as usual, losing my business phone, practically out of food and desperately need a van! It seems silly to try to buy a van when all we need is brakes on Sue’s van. Sue is happy to let us use hers to transport the dogs. Sue can’t transport anymore due to her work schedule and she would like to see her van put to good use. It’s just not safe with the brakes right now.”
Please click on the DONATE button. Thank You!!
The Meaning of Animal Rescue

The Meaning of Animal Rescue
Now that I’m home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked into my warm new bed.
I’d like to open my baggage,
Lest I forget,
There is so much to carry -
So much to regret. Hmmmm …
Yes, there it is, right on the top,
Let’s unpack Loneliness, heartache and Loss,
And there by my bed hides Fear and Shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave -
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.
I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn’t good enough – for they didn’t want me.
Will you add to my baggage?
Or will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things -
And take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage,
And never repack?
I pray that you do – I’m so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage -
Will you still want me?

We’re Starting a *NEW* Spay/Neuter Program!!!
That’s right!! Our friend Julia in Kentucky is going to help us with a new Spay & Neuter program!
Sadly, year after year, we see pups at the pound that resemble some of last year’s pups. There’s a rough economy out there and lots of dogs feeling the “pinch.” Not only are lots of beautiful house pets being dropped at the pound daily, but loads and loads of puppies!! The only way these little guys have a chance is by vaccination and spay/neuter.
We work hard to rehome these babies and continually need supplies, fosters, drivers, paid transports and donations.
Luckily in Kentucky, these pups can have this procedure for a mere $70.00 This is certainly a bargain, compared to our New England fees!
Thanks for reading and thank you in advance for your support. Donations can be made on our CHIPIN page:

Rowan County Dogs Desperately Needs Your Help!
URGENT MESSAGE:We continue to need foster homes and funds. Please consider taking in a dog for a week or two while we place them in rescues. We have worked very hard to keep all dogs alive and safe until they can get to a rescue or home. This has proved to be a labor of love but unfortunately we cannot keep up with the current intake level at the dog pound. All dogs are at risk. So if a dog takes your fancy please act quickly and call the dog pound at 606-784-4930. Please adopt a dog and spay/neuter your pets.
Our goal is to get dogs out of the pound and to the safety of a rescue or a new home. Dogs that are at the pound are subject to walk-in adoptions that we cannot contol. They are also subject to being euthanized if the pound gets over capacity (this is a weekly occurrence). If you want to adopt a dog the adoption fee will include vet/boarding costs. When we foster a dog for more than a few days, another dog at the pound could die because we have no where to put it. We will only pull dogs from the pound that have a place to go.
News
All donations are tax deductable, as we are awaiting confirmation of our 5013c status!
The Rowan County Dog Shelter is always full! We need immediate assistance but please do not ask us to hold them for you as we have no foster space and are currently boarding dogs. Email us if you can help

Who We Are
Peace Love & Pets is an organization founded by Julia Sharp, committed to improving the conditions for the abandoned dogs of Rowan County, KY. Our members work to find safe and loving homes for dogs that find themselves in the Rowan County Canine Shelter. STAR members are dedicated to reducing the number of dogs euthanized due to the overcrowded conditions of this rural shelter. We have a limited number of foster homes and we need more. Please consider providing a temporary home for a puppy or dog that is up for adoption.
Rescue groups are most welcome however a reference check is required. Please contact us for additional information. Please do not ask us to hold dogs. We can help arrange transport.

Adopting a friend
Adopting a dog is a commitment. Dogs need fresh food, water, and safe environment, and you. No dog should ever be chained nor should it be expected to “know the rules.” As a responsible pet owner we must help our new four-legged friend understand what good manners include. Before adopting a puppy or dog make sure that all family members are in agreement and will contribute to the care and training of your new family member. Dogs that are adopted at the pound will be given their first shot. The adoption fee ($50) includes a rabies vaccination and spay/neuter (required for all adoptions). If you adopt your dog through STAR the adoption cost is equal to the cost of the pound fee plus any veterinarian care required to provide you with a healthy pet. STAR adoptions are subject to approval via references and home visits.
